INTRODUCTION TO FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
AUTHOR : J.N.REDDY
PUBLISHER : McGraw-Hill Publishers
Since the practice of the finite-element method ultimately depends on one's ability to implement the technique on a digital computer, examples and exercises are designed to let the reader actually compute the solutions of various problems using computers. Ample discussion of the computer implementation of the finite-element method is given in Chapters 3 and 4. Three model programs (FEM1D, FEM2D, and PLATE) are described, and their application is illustrated via several examples. The computer programs are very easy to understand because they are designed along the same lines as the theory presentedin the book. The programs are available for mainframe and IBM PC compatibles from the author for a small charge. Numerous examples, most of which are applications of the concepts to specific problems in various fields of engineering and applied science, are provided throughout the book.
The conclusion of the examples are indicated by the symbol II. At approprate intervals in the book an extensive number of exercise problems is included to test and extend the understanding of the concepts discussed. For those who wish to gain additional knowledge of the topics covered in the book, many reference books and research papers are listed at the end of each chapter. There are several sections that can be skipped in a first reading of the book (such sections are marked with an asterisk); these can be filled in wherever needed later. The material is intended for a quarter or a semester course, although it is better suited for a semester course.
